Valerie Girsberger, a graduate of Sheldon Williams Collegiate in Regina, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B. Sc., 1969; B. A. PE, 1972; M. Sc., 1972) in 1966.
The Huskiette basketball team went 96-15 during her four years, highlighted by winning the WCIAA conference championship in 1970-71.
An excellent outside shooter, Valerie ranked in the top 10 in club history in several statistical categories. She was a member of the Saskatchewan team at the 1967 Canada Winter Games in Quebec City and the bronze medal winning team at the 1971 Canada Winter Games in Saskatoon.
Valerie led the Huskiette field hockey team to the WCIAA conference championship in 1967. She played on the Saskatchewan field hockey team at the 1969 Canada Summer Games in Halifax and at three Canadian championships.
She was a member of the Women's Athletic Board for three yearsand served as president in 1971-72.
Huskie Athletics awards the Valerie Gisberger Trophy to the female athlete who best combines leadership, sportsmanship, academics and athletics.
