George Brent came to the University of Saskatchewan from Coleville in 1937.

Prior to joining the Huskies, he played junior hockey with the Saskatoon Wesleys. He was a star defenceman with the Huskies for four intervarsity seasons - 1936-37, 1937-38, 1938-39, 1939-40 - and was team captain in 1938-39 and 1939-40. He was also captain of the team in 1940-41, when, due to the war, there was no intervarsity competition. He led the Huskies in scoring in 1939-40 with 13 points, including nine goals in eight games. In 20 games through four seasons, George had 12 goals and 17 points.

He played offensive end on the football team and was twice named an all-star.

George won a senior 'S' in 1938 and in 1940 was awarded the Rusty McDonald Cup for sportsmanship, leadership and athletic ability in his undergraduate years.

During summers, George excelled in baseball, playing in Regina, St. Joseph's and Wilkie.
