Sheryl Kleckner, a graduate of Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B. Ed., 1982) in 1977.

Sheryl competed on the Huskiette basketball team for five years, serving as co-captain for one season. She was selected to the Canada West conference all-star team in 1982 and 1983. At the conclusion of her career, she was fourth all-time on the Huskiettes in conference scoring with 840 points.

While a student at the University of Saskatchewan, she was a member of the Saskatoon Harmony Centre softball team, which won the Canadian Senior Women's Championship in 1981.

In 1983, Sheryl was awarded the Bob Stayner Trophy as the outstanding female athlete at the University in a tournament sport.
