Gwen (Wall) Ridout, a graduate of Mount Royal Collegiate, held Huskies track & field records in the 300-, 400-, 500- and 600-metres and was a key member of the 4X200- and 4X400-metre relay teams.
She was awarded the Mary Ethel Cartwright Trophy as female athlete of the year at the U of S for four consecutive years - 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986 - and was named a CIAU All-Canadian in each of those seasons. The Huskies won the team title at the CIAU Championship in 1985 and 1986.
Gwen set the Canadian record in the 400-metre hurdles and won a bronze medal in the event at the 1993 FISU Games. She also represented Canada at the world championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan-Amercian Games and Pan Pacific Championships.
She finished fourth in the Canadian trials in the 400-metre hurdles for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, one spot short of making the team, but was bumped up after another athlete was injured. However, she couldn't get accredited for the Games in time to race.
Gwen was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
