Gerald Lashyn, a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.S.P.E., 1985; B. Ed., 1986) in 1981.

Gerald was a memberof the Huskies football team for five years and on the wrestling team for four seasons.

He was named a Canada West conference all-star and a CIAU All-Canadian at linebacker in 1984. He was also selected as the outstanding defensive player in Canada West in 1984.

In wrestling, Gerald won a gold medal at the 1985 conference championship in his weight class and won bronze at the CIAU meet.

He was awarded the E. Kent Phillips Trophy in 1985 as the outstanding male athlete at the University and the same year also won the Rusty McDonald Cup for leadership, sportsmanship, athletics and academics.
