Robert Kochan, a graduate of Wakaw High School, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.A. P.E., 1971) in 1967.

Robert was a member of the Huskies cross country and track& field teams for five years, leading the Huskies to three Canada West conference titles in cross country and two track & field championships.

In 1968, he finished fourth at the CIAU cross country championship in Halifax, leading the Huskies to the team title.

Robert won five of his six races in the 1970-71 cross country season, including the Canada West Conference and Western Canadian Open titles.

In track & field, he was the 1970 CIAU champion in the mile and two-mile events. Also in 1970, he competed in the Boston Marathon and finished 19th.
