Ernest McNab, a graduate of Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.E., 1931) in 1922.

Although small, he was a fierce competitor. Ernie was a centre on the Huskies hockey team that advanced to the Allan Cup Canadian Senior Final in Winnipeg in 1922-23 and was captain of the team in 1925-26. He played on the Huskies football team for six years.

As an RCAF pilot in the Second World War, Ernest fought in the Battle of Britain. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).
