The Huskies won the 1988 Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) to become the national university volleyball champions. They defeated the #1 ranked University of Manitoba Bisons 3-1 in the national final after defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-1 in the quarter-final and the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 in the semifinal.
The Huskies finished with a 15-1 Canada West record and did not lose a set within the conference after Christmas. They also won the Canada West Championship after defeating the Calgary Dinos in two straight matches in a best-of-three conference final.
As a team the Huskies had 738 kills, 174 blocks and 77 service aces and had three Huskies in the top 10 in attacks in the conference. The Huskies had five Canada West All-Stars in Brian Gavlas, Jerome Linnnell, Brock Blomquist, Darwin Daae and Brad Dusyk. Head coach Tom Graham was named Coach of the Year. At the CIAU Championship, Brian Gavlas was named the tournament MVP and Darwin Daae and Brad Dusyk were tournament all-stars. Brian Gavlas and Jerome Linnell were also named All-Canadians.
The championship marked the Huskies second national title in history.
