Lorne Gray, a native of Brandon, Manitoba and a graduate of City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.E., 1935; M. Sc., 1938; L.L.D, 1961) in 1929.
He starred with the Saskatoon Wesleys junior hockey team before joining the Huskies for three seasons - 1934-35, 1935-36 and 1937-38. A left winger and defenceman, he was the top scorer in the conference in 1935-36 with four points in four games and was two times captain of the team.
He played on the Huskies soccer team for five years.
For his athletic achievements, he received a Major Athletic Award.
In addition to competing in hockey and soccer, he was manager of the Huskie football team for one year and served on both the Men's Athletic Directorate and the Men's Athletic Board.
Lorne went on to be president of the Atomic Energy of Canada limited (AECL) from 1958 to 1974.
