Doug Redl, a graduate of Evan Hardy Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.S.P.E., 1982; B.Ed., 1983) in 1974.

Doug played offensive line with the Huskies football team for four years. He was named to the Canada West conference all-star team at offensive guard in 1976 and 1977 and was selected as a CIAU All-Canadian both years.

In 1977, he was named to the Canadian team for the Can-Am Bowl in Tampa, Florida, featuring college all-stars from Canada and the U.S.

Doug went on to play in the CFL for four years with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts.

He was an assistant coach with the Huskies in 1984.
