Margaret "Peggy" (Wilton) McKercher, a graduate of City Park Collegiate, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.A., 1950) in 1947.
Peggy participated on a total of eight University of Saskatchewan teams, each of which was a city, provincial and/or intervarsity championship team. She was a member of the Huskiettes basketball team that won the Cecil Race Trophy as Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union three consecutive years, competed on the track & field team that won the Rutherford Trophy three years straight and was also on the swim team.
For her athletic achievements, Peggy received a Major Athletic Award in 1950.
She was a member of the Women's Athletic Board, serving as president in 1949-50.
Peggy went on to be active in the community, serving as deputy reeve in Corman Park, as chair of the Meewasin Valley Authority in its formative years and as vice-chair of Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
She was chancellor of the University of Saskatchewan from 1995 to 2001.
Peggy was named CFQC Saskatoon Citizen of the Year in 1989 and invested in the Order of Canada in 1995.
