SASKATOON, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men's Hockey team and head coach
Brandin Cote announced today the signing of former WHL and AlpsHL defenceman Karter Prosofsky.
"Karter brings a unique blend of skill, grit, and competitiveness, further strengthening our already deep and talented blueline," said Cote. "He's a tremendous teammate, a proud Saskatoon product, and fully invested in being a Huskie."
"I've enjoyed every second spent around the guys so far, I can't wait to get started," said Prosofsky. "I've known a lot of the guys [on the team], or heard about and played against them, which was kind of the deciding factor [to come to USask]. It's a pretty special group."
A 5-foot-10 blueliner and local Saskatoon product, Prosofsky joins the Huskies out of HC Gherdëina of the Alps Hockey League in Central Europe where he spent the 2024-25 season. While in Italy, he totaled 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) in 37 games before adding one point in three playoff contests.
A former Saskatoon Blazer, Prosofsky owns a five-year career in the WHL which began with the Kootenay Ice who would later become the Winnipeg Ice and then Wenatchee Wild. In 176 career WHL regular season games, he recorded 18 goals and 64 assists while earning a +/- rating of +80.
His best season came in 2023-24 with the Wenatchee Wild, his final season in the WHL, where he scored 14 goals, recorded 45 points, and was +36 in 59 games. Serving as an assistant captain, he helped the Wild to a 34-30-4 record and fourth-place in the WHL's Western Conference, setting up the second playoff appearance of his career.
In 25 career WHL postseason contests, Prosofsky scored once and recorded nine assists.
Prosofsky marks the sixth Huskie recruit whose career features time in WHL, joining a 2025 class that brings over 1,100 games of total experience.
