SASKATOON, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men's Hockey team and head coach Brandin Cote announced today the signing of former WHL defencemen Morgan Tastad.
"Morgan is a big, steady, physical defender who brings size, character, and depth to our back end," said Cote. "He plays a reliable, hard game and adds another important piece to an already strong defensive group. As another Saskatchewan player with ties to Saskatoon, he's a natural fit for our program. We're excited to welcome Morgan to the Huskies."
"I think everything came together nicely [with the Huskies]," said Tastad. "They've had a really good team, especially the last couple of years which definitely helped [my decision], and I can take what I want in Ag Business."
A 6-foot-4 forward and Loreburn, Saskatchewan product, Tastad joins the Huskies from the WHL's Penticton Vees where he appeared in 37 games during the club's inaugural season in 2025-26. In his lone campaign with the Vees, he recorded one goal and six points before taking the ice for nine playoff contests and totaling two assists.
Tastad, who had previously been a member of the Saskatoon Blades for three seasons from 2023 to 2025, was dealt to Penticton as part of an expansion draft trade in the 2025 offseason.
Prior to the trade, the blueliner had appeared in 108 games with Saskatoon, recording three goals and 13 points. He also suited up for the Blades in 19 playoff games, totaling two assists.
Tastad joins a slew of former Blades now donning green & white, with
Ben Saunderson,
Conner Roulette,
Josh Pillar,
Rhett Rhinehart,
Nolan Maier, and Tyler Parr, another member of the 2026 Huskie recruiting class, all having traded in the SaskTel Centre for Merlis Belsher Place.
