Following their 12th Canada West Championship, the Saskatchewan Huskies are set to make their 22nd University Cup appearance when they take the ice at TD Place Friday night.
In each of their previous four championship appearances, the Huskies have reached the semifinal round in each one, with the exception of the 2019-20 U-Cup which was canceled following the quarter-final round.
The #2 seeded Huskies are set to take on the seventh seeded Queen's Gales of the OUA. The Gaels earned a nationals berth thanks to a 4-0 victory over the UofT Varsity Blues in the OUA bronze medal game which followed a 2-0 (2-1, 1-0) semifinal series loss to the eventual conference champion and No. 3-seed Concordia Stingers.
The Dogs and Gaels have met just once in their respective program histories, coming in Saskatchewan's first ever National Championship appearance. In the 1981 University Cup the Huskies handed Queen's a 5-4 loss in the semifinals before going on to capture silver after falling to the Moncton Aigles Bleus in the, at the time CIS Final.
Entering the tournament as the No. 2-seed, and the highest remaining seed following the UNB Red's loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees, the Huskies are one of just three teams to finish the season ranked inside the top 10 in goals for (6th), goals against (3rd), powerplay percentage (1st), and penalty killing percentage (1st). Owning the fourth-best goal differential of the eight U-Cup teams, the Huskies scored 112 goals in the regular season while allowing a conference-low 59. Saskatchewan also boasts the best special teams units in the nation, with a powerplay converting at 31.6% and a penalty killing unit which has held opponents to just 10.0%.
In the postseason, the Huskies have continued their stellar play, having failed to suffer a regulation loss in the Canada West playoffs. Outscoring opponents 21-14, the Dogs have also been one of the most disciplined teams in the U SPORTS postseason with just 42 penalty minutes.

Chantz Petruic, who has recorded eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in six games thus far. Second Team All-Star
Landon Kosior ranks second on Saskatchewan with five points (3 goals, 2 assists) while a quartet of Dogs have recorded four points in
Vince Loschiavo,
Liam Keeler,
Parker Gavlas, and
Dawson Holt.
In net, the Huskies have been led by the Canada West Goaltender of the Year and Second Team All-Canadian netminder,
Roddy Ross, who in four games owns a .932 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average. In the Dogs' most recent must-have game, Ross recorded a 30-save shutout in game three of the Canada West finals to lead Saskatchewan to a 2-1 series win.
With a win, the Huskies would advance to the U-Cup semifinals and face off with the winner of the No. 3-seed Concordia Stingers and the No. 6-seeded Moncton Aigles Bleus quarter-final at 7:00 PM ET (5:00 PM CT) Saturday night (Mar. 22).
