Box Score SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored early and often en route to a 9-3 win over the visiting Trinity Western Spartans at Merlis Belsher Place.
With the win, the Huskies wrapped up a successful weekend sweep of the Spartans, moving to 6-0-0 on the season.
Jaxan Kaluski and Dawson Holt recorded two tallies, while Chantz Petruic, Gordie Ballhorn, Zane Franklin, Connor Hobbs and Justin Ball also found the back of the net for Saskatchewan in the win.
The Dogs scored seven in the first period, setting the tone on a Spartans team which hung around on Friday night, keeping the scoresheet scoreless through one.
"All you're trying to do is get that. That's your number one priority. You find a way to get better. I thought we started good tonight," said Huskies head coach Mike Babcock.
The Huskies power play has been struggling to find their groove this season, but that was not the case tonight, scoring four with the man-advantage on eight opportunities.
"I liked our power play," said Babcock.
Travis Child made 16 saves in the win.
Travis Verveda was a standout all night for Trinity Western. He scored a power play marker in the first period to cut the then Huskies lead to two and added an assist later on in the evening. Braydon Brown and Hayden Guilderson scored the other goals for the visitors.
Talor Joseph got the start between the pipes for the Spartans, but lasted just the first period after allowing seven goals on 21 shots in what was a dominant frame from the Dogs. Saskatoon product Isaac Labelle, who got the start of Friday night, was sharp in mop-up duty, allowing just two goals on 27 shots the rest of the way.
Trinity Western moved to 0-6-0 on the season with the loss, and will continue to look for their first victory in program history next weekend when they play host to the Regina Cougars.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are on the road for their next four games, travelling to Calgary and Vancouver for matchups against the Dinos and UBC Thunderbirds. Saskatchewan will wrap up the calendar year at home against the Mount Royal Cougars on Dec. 3 and 4 at Merlis Belsher Place.
