SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team will face-off against their provincial rival Regina Cougars for the first time this season and their game on Friday, Oct. 26 will begin a weekend of ceremonies to celebrate the Grand Opening Weekend of Merlis Belsher Place.
The Huskies are fresh off a dominant two-game series against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, where they defeated the visiting club on back-to-back nights by scores of 5-0 and 4-0.
Meanwhile, the Cougars are fresh off a series sweep of their own, as they took down the Manitoba Bisons in two straight games in Winnipeg. Regina defeated Manitoba 3-1, on Oct. 19, and followed that up with a 6-3 victory on Oct. 20.
The Huskies defeated the Cougars in all four of their matchups last season, including 6-0 and 3-2 victories on home-ice.

1: The game will get the festivities for the Merlis Belsher Place Grand Opening Weekend underway and will also mark the first time the Cougars take to the ice in their counterpart's new home.
2: Friday night's matchup is the first half of a home and home with the Cougars, as the two teams will take the ice for the second time in as many nights on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Regina.

Scouting the Cougars
The Cougars currently sit with a 2-3-1 record through five games. After losing their first four games of the season, Regina bounced back with big victories over the Bisons.
Regina finished in the basement of the Canada West in the 2017-2018 season, as they recorded a 4-22-2 record. The team will be hoping to bounce back this season and will be looking to qualify for the postseason since the 2012-2013 campaign.

Meanwhile on the blue line, Tyler King is tied for first in the Canada West in points among defenseman with seven. The third-year Cougar has tallied three goals and four assists so far this season.
Goaltender Dawson MacAuley stands with a 2-1-1 record through four games. The fourth ear has been strong between the pipes as he enters the weekend with a 2.48 goals-against average and 0.920 save percentage.
