CW PLAYOFF SCHEDULE
After closing out a perfect regular season against the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend, the Huskies enter the Canada West postseason as the No. 2 seed and are set to officially begin their quest for a third consecutive conference championship. While the Dogs may be ready to go, their opponent has yet to be decided, with the Fraser Valley Cascades and Mount Royal Cougars set to clash in the play-in round for the right to take on the top-ranked team in the nation.
Regardless of who advances to Saturday's quarterfinal, the winner will have an uphill battle, as Saskatchewan has dominated conference competition this season. With an average margin of victory of 31.5 points, the Huskies rank first in both points per game (83.0) and points against per game (52.4), while also leading the conference in field goals made per game (30.6), field goal percentage (43.9), turnovers per game (14.7), and both offensive and defensive efficiency (1.071 and 0.682).
The 2025-26 season has also seen Saskatchewan excel against some of the top competition in U SPORTS, with eight games coming against ranked opponents this year. In those eight matchups, the Huskies continued to dominate, winning by an average margin of 17 points.
A win Saturday would send Saskatchewan to their 16th consecutive conference semifinal, where the Dogs would take on the winner of the Trinity Western, Calgary, and Manitoba section of the Canada West bracket.
QUICK NOTES
PERFECT IN 2025-26: The Saskatchewan Huskies recorded their second-ever undefeated season this year with a record of 20-0. The last time the Dogs went undefeated was their inaugural Canada West season in 1971-72 with a record of 6-0. The team's perfect season marked the 17th such season in Canada West history and 65th in Canadian University women's basketball. The Huskies will now look to become the 11th undefeated conference champion in program history and first since Simon Fraser in 2004-05.
CHIPPING AWAY AT HISTORY: Entering the playoffs on a 50-game winning streak which dates back to November 2024, the Huskies have tied the fourth-longest such streak in the history of Canadian University women's basketball. The Winnipeg Wesmen own to all-time record with 88 consecutive wins (1992-95) followed by the Calgary Dinos with 69 (1988-90) and the Simon Fraser Red Leafs with 54 (2008-10).
PLAYOFF STREAK ON THE LINE: The Huskies have won six consecutive conference playoff games with their last loss coming in the 2023 semifinals to the Alberta Pandas. The streak of six games is tied for the third-longest in program history. The Huskies will also look to match the programs longest streak of conference championships with the third in a row, previously achieved by Saskatchewan from 2019-22.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Saskatchewan has won 24 consecutive home games (regular season & playoffs), which include each of their three playoff home games in 2025.
HUSKIES & THE CANADA WEST PLAYOFFS: With an all-time playoff record of 62-31, the Huskies have advanced to the conference championship game 16 times, including in 10 of the past 11 seasons.
HUSKIES AND MRU/UFV IN THE PLAYOFFS: If Mount Royal wins the 10 vs 7 play-in game, it will be the first-ever postseason meeting between the Huskies and Cougars. If Fraser Valley is victorious, it will mark the 10th time the Huskies and Cascades have met in the postseason and a rematch of last year's quarterfinal which saw the Dogs advance with a 63-45 win. In nine postseason meetings with UFV, Saskatchewan owns an overall record of 6-3 and are 5-1 in single-elimination games.
LEADING THE PACK: The Huskies enter the weekend once again ranked as the top team in the nation, a streak which has now reached 11 editions of the U SPORTS Top 10 and spanned the entirety of the 2025-26 regular season. If they can maintain that streak for one more week the Huskies will tie their all-time record of consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 which was previously set from Oct. 29, 2019, to Feb. 4, 2020.
THOMAIDIS CONTINUES TO CHASE RECORDS: After becoming the all-time Canada West women's basketball wins leader last season, head coach
Lisa Thomaidis continues to chase down several records. With 84 career postseason wins, she sits just 12 back of former Victoria head coach and Hall of Famer Kathy Williams Shields for the most in the history of Canadian University women's basketball.
GAGE GRASSICK LOOKS TO CONTINUE POSTSEASON GREATNESS: Three times has fifth-year guard
Gage Grassick recorded 30+ points in a championship game, one in last year's Canada West Championship (31) and twice in the U SPORTS National Championship (30 in 2024, 35 in 2025). Grassick ranks among the programs best playoff performers and sits in the top-10 of the program record books for playoff points (6th), field goals made (6th), free throws made (9th), three-point field goals made (5th), assists (4th), steals (2nd), minutes played (9th), and three-point percentage (10th).
