Second Half Surge Secures UPC Win, Extends Huskie Unbeaten Streak to 48 Games

REGINA, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies remain the lone undefeated team in the nation following an impressive 81-69 road win over the No. 4-ranked Regina Cougars. In a hostile environment, a lopsided second half led the Dogs to their 18th win of the season and 48th consecutive victory.

In what was a tightly-contested first half, the Regina Cougars went 15-for-30 from the field and controlled the glass to build a 40-34 advantage at the break. Allowing 22 points in the paint, Saskatchewan looked to their perimeter shooting to cut the deficit but struggled from beyond the arc, going 4-for-11.

Coming out of the break, Saskatchewan quickly looked to reestablish control of the paint, and outscored the home team 16-2 under the basket and 20-10 in the quarter. Tea DeMong led the third-quarter charge for the top-ranked Huskies, recording eight of her 22 points in the frame.

The fourth saw Saskatchewan take full control of the game, led by a remarkable stretch from Logan Reider. The Huskies were efficient from all areas of the court, shooting 54% from the field, 57% from the three-point line, and getting to the charity stripe for 13 attempts. Reider, who finished the contest with a game-high 24 points, totaled 16 in the fourth which included a trio of makes from beyond the arc.

In addition to a strong offensive outing, Tea DeMong was fantastic at the defensive end, recording six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Maya Flindall, who added 12 points, also impressed in her own end with four steals while Gage Grassick put in a strong all-round effort with six points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The victory not only keeps the Huskies perfect season and win streak intact, but it als clinched the Canada West Prairie Division, meaning the Huskies will enter the 2026 conference playoffs as the No. 2 seed.

Prior to the postseason, Saskatchewan will return home for their final two regular season games set to come against the Winnipeg Wesmen (4-14) Friday (Feb. 6) and Saturday (Feb. 7).
