SASKATOON, Sask. – Huskie Men's Basketball Head Coach
Jamie Campbell is pleased to announce that former assistant coach and current CEBL standout,
Alex Campbell, has been named Lead Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025-26 season.
"We are extremely excited to have Alex back as our Lead Assistant coach," said Head Coach
Jamie Campbell. "His ability to connect with our players and give them a professional player's point of view is invaluable. His player development skills are tremendous, and his loyalty to our program is something we were missing last season. I am looking forward to having Alex here full time as we continue to build the Huskies Men's Basketball program together."
After spending the past three seasons serving as an assistant on the Huskie coaching staff,
Alex Campbell now returns to the bench in a full-time capacity with the Dogs, marking an official move to coaching for the six-year veteran of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
"This is something I have always been interested in," said Campbell. "When Jamie [Campbell] got the job, I reached out to him immediately after all our battles in the OUA when he was coaching and I was playing at the University of Windsor. I'm just really looking forward to growing with this young group we have and getting back to the winning ways of Huskie basketball."
"Jamie allowed me the grace to finish out my playing career, and it feels good to finally make the full transition [to coaching]. I'm ready for it, and I'm excited for the opportunity."
Currently playing with the Winnipeg Sea Bears, Campbell began his CEBL career with the Saskatchewan Rattlers in the league's inaugural season. Leading the Rattlers in points, minutes, and three-point percentage, he helped the Saskatoon-based team claim the league's first championship and was named CEL Championship Weekend MVP.

During the 2024 CEBL season, Campbell became the first Canadian player to reach 1,000 career points, doing so in dramatic fashion with a three-point target score winner against the Scarborough Shooting Stars.
In addition to his accomplished CEBL career, Campbell has spent time overseas playing in Spain (LEB Oro, 2017-18), Finland (Korisliiga, 2020-21), and France (LNB Pro B, 2021-22) while also appearing in the Basketball Super League (2016-17, 2024-25) and National Basketball League of Canada (2017-20).
As a student-athlete, Campbell spent two seasons with the Niagara College Knights (2011-13) in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) before joining the University of Windsor Lancers ahead of the 2013-14 season. With the Lancers, Campbell helped capture an at-the-time CIS Championship in 2014-15, which saw Windsor defeat Saskatchewan in the national final.
The following season, Campbell was named an OUA First Team All-Star after leading the Lancers in minutes, points, rebounds, and blocks while finishing 5

In addition to his extensive playing career, Campbell also founded and leads Camp Campbell, a community-based initiative dedicated to using the power of basketball to inspire and educate young athletes, kids, and parents.
