SASKATOON, Sask. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskie men's basketball team saw their 2025-26 season come to a close Saturday night (Feb. 7) at the Physical Activity Complex, falling to the Winnipeg Wesmen 76-80.
The loss sees the huskies finish the regular season with a 5-15 record, while the playoff-bound Wesmen and No. 1 seed in the Canada West playoffs, secured a 16-4 record.
Similarly to Friday night's contest, the game opened up with a fast pace as both teams traded baskets early. Saskatchewan kept things close early thanks to strong play interior play from
Easton Thimm, who recorded six points and six rebounds, and efficient shooting from
Dylan Miller who connected on two shots from beyond the arc.
Flexing their depth scoring, Winnipeg would finish the frame with a 24-22 advantage as six players found the score sheet early.
The visitors continued to build momentum in the second quarter, stretching the lead to as many as 12 points midway through the frame as Alberto Gordo and Emmanuel Ugbah combined for 13 points and several timely makes. Winnipeg carried a 45-29 lead into the break thanks to a 5-% shooting performance in the frame.
Saskatchewan responded in the third quarter, using energy at both ends of the court to claw back into the game.
Mohamed Mahadhi and
Dylan Miller sparked the offense with three-pointers, while Thimm continued to dominate the glass. Despite the strong play, the Huskies were once again outscored by the Wesmen 19-18 to enter the final frame trailing 64-57.
The fourth-quarter featured another strong effort from the huskies, who continued to chip away at the deficit and with 3:19 left ties things up at 70-70. However, Winnipeg answered immediately, as Ugbah and Gordo combined for key baskets to restore the advantage. Despite cutting the lead to three with 50 seconds remaining the Huskies could not finish off the comeback, ultimately falling in their regular season finale.
Gordo led all scorers with 21 points and added nine rebounds and five assists, while Ryan Luke added 16 points and nine rebounds for Winnipeg and Ugbah finished with 17.
Saskatchewan was led by another standout performance from Thimm, who recorded a dominant 20-point, 20-rebound effort along with seven assists. Mahadhi chipped in 15 points, and
Emmanuel Bonsu added 13.
