SASKATOON, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men's Hockey team and head coach
Brandin Cote announced today the signing of former ECHL goaltender Bryan Thomson.
"Bryan will be a great addition to our group this season," said Cote. "Another player who had a solid junior career and earned an opportunity to play professionally, he has proven to be a consistent goaltender who takes advantage of his size and mobility."
"It is super exciting [joining the Huskies], seeing everything the team accomplished last season, it's a great organization to be joining," said Thomson. "Knowing I'm getting a good education from a such a high caliber university and getting to play close to home certainly made my decision easier as well."
"I want to come in and make an impact, be a guy that can be relied on throughout the season and be a part of this group."
Thomson, a 6-foot-5 netminder, joins the Huskies after a two-year career with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. A product of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the goaltender saw action in 60 regular season games with the Steelheads, producing a 31-18-5 record. In the 2023-24 Kelly Cup playoffs he continued to impress, earning a 3-1-1 record and a .906 save percentage in seven games.
Despite not making his AHL debut between the pipes, Thomson also spent two stretches with the Texas Stars, affiliate to the Dallas Stars, after signing a two-year contract in 2023.
Prior to turning pro, Thomson spent five seasons with the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes, appearing in 117 contests and earning a career record of 59-42-5 while owning a career save percentage of .901 and 3.06 goals against average.
