WICHITA, Kansas - This past Saturday (Mar. 29), 2025 Canada West Goaltender of the Year
Roddy Ross signed a contract with the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL. The Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks and AHL affiliate of the San Jose Barracuda, have five games remaining in the regular season and are currently on track to qualify for the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
It took less than 24 hours after signing for Ross to make his ECHL debut, as he earned the start in Sunday's (Mar. 30) game against the Iowa Heartlanders. The 2025 Canada West All-Star and Second Team All-Canadian made 42 saves to help lead the
Thunder to a 3-2 overtime victory, picking up a win in his first pro start.Â
Ross joined the Thunder coming off an exceptional 2024-25 season with the Huskies. The netminder won 10 games while recording a conference best 1.99 goals against average and .928 save percentage to help the Dogs claim first-place in Canada West. In the conference playoffs the veteran goalie then made four starts, including all three games of the Canada West final against the MRU Cougars. A key piece of Saskatchewan's 12th Canada West title, Ross earned a 30-save shutout in game three to solidify the conference banner.Â
At the 2025 University Cup, Ross was stellar in the three-game tournament, earning a 1.00 goals against average and .932 save percentage on the Huskies' way to a U SPORTS Bronze medal.
Prior to his career in green & white, the 2019 sixth round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers spent three seasons in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Regina Pats.Â
