Box Score The Alberta Golden Bears have company on top of the Canada West east division standings. The U of S Huskies put the finishing touches on a two-game weekend sweep with a 4-1 win over Alberta at Merlis Belsher Place on Friday night. Both teams sit with 3the 6. The Huskies have two games in hand.
The Huskies struck first as
Raphael Pelletier scored his 6
th goal of the season, 5:37 into the game. The home team increased the lead midway through the first period when
Liam Keeler scored his 7
th of the season on Bear goaltender Tyler Palmer.
Fourth-year forwards
Dawson Holt and
Chantz Petruic, who were tied for the Huskie team lead in scoring entering the game, struck in the second period. Holt scored his 10
th of the season at the 2:09 mark to make it 3-0. With the score 3-1, Petruic scored on the power play with 4:23 left to go in the second period. Petruic scored two goals including the game winner in Friday night's 4-3 Saskatchewan win over Alberta. The Huskies had 10 power play chances on Saturday night, including a 5-minute man advantage on a second period checking from behind call on Mason Ward.
Bear first-year forward Brett Hyland, who missed Friday's game due to suspension, scored Alberta's lone goal on Saturday in the second period. The Edmonton product now has 11 goals and 27 points in 23 games this season. Veteran USask goaltender,
Roddy Ross, registered his 8
th win of the season, making 20 saves. Golden Bear netminder, Tyler Palmer, faced 30 Huskie shots.
The Bears and Huskies both have 36 points at the top of the east division standings. Saskatchewan has six games remaining, while Alberta has four. The Huskies visit the MacEwan Griffins on January 31
st and February 1
st in Edmonton, while the Bears host Trinity Western at Clare Drake Arena.
