SASKATOON – Following a two-game pacific coast road swing, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's soccer team returns home for two matches on Field 7 inside Nutrien Park.
Â
The Huskies picked up a single point in British Columbia this past weekend, after battling a pair of Pacific Division foes. Saskatchewan started out with a 0-0 draw against the UVic Vikes, before falling 2-0 at the hands of UBC Thunderbirds in the club's final match of the weekend.
Â
Saskatchewan will have a prime opportunity to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, against a struggling Winnipeg Wesmen club who is 1-5-0 this season.
Â
On Sunday afternoon at Field 7, the Huskies will take on the Manitoba Bisons, who are entering the weekend after picking up back-to-back clean sheet victories on the road.
Â
These teams have already met once this season, with Saskatchewan starting 2019 with two-straight victories in Winnipeg.
Halle Krynowsky and
Maya Gabruch both scored in a 2-1 win over the Bisons before the Huskies dominated the Wesmen 4-0 the following day.
Â
The story of the season thus far for Saskatchewan has been the play fourth-year forward
Maya Gabruch. Gabruch is in the midst of a career-year with the Huskies, after the Saskatoon native scored five goals in the opening four matches of the season. The graduate of Bishop James Mahoney High School sits in a tie for second in the conference in goals. Gabruch has found the net in both games in Saskatoon this season and will be looking to help lead her club to wins this weekend.

The Winnipeg native is off to a sensational start to her U SPORTS career and shutting down the talented midfielder will be crucial for the Huskies to have success come Sunday afternoon.

Â
Goalkeepers Karina Bagi and Anna Biebrich have each appeared in four games this season for Manitoba. Biebrich, a first-year Winnipeg native, has received the last two starts and picked up back-to-back clean sheet victories for the Bisons.
