SASKATOON – Recording a point in their last four-consecutive games, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's soccer team will look to stay hot as they prepare for a home-and-home set against the Regina Cougars this weekend.

Hosting the Cougars on Friday at 2:00 p.m., the Huskies will then head down the road for the return leg on Saturday at noon.

With a pair of wins and a pair of ties in their last four games, Saskatchewan enters the weekend vying for not just the right to host in the playoffs but also a Prairie Division title. The Huskies currently sit at a record of 5-2-3, giving them 18 points on the season with four games left to play. The Alberta Pandas are level with Saskatchewan on 18 points, but hold a game in hand. Not far ahead of those teams are the division-leading MacEwan Griffins, who enter the weekend with 20 points.

Trying to track down that lead back are the Cougars, who hold a record of 3-4-3 and are firmly in possession of fifth place.

These teams met twice last season with the Huskies recording identical 1-0 victories thanks to goals from Payton Izsak and Kalli Cowles.

5 Things

1: Saskatchewan has dominated this rivalry in recent times. Since the 2013 season the Huskies hold a record of 10-0-2 against the Cougars.

2: Jadyn Steinhauer's 53 saves so far this season is already the third-most in program history for a single season.

3: Last weekend the Huskies officially clinched their spot in the playoffs for the eighth-consecutive season

4: Jenelle Zapski has moved into a tie for second in the Huskie career record books with 45 points over her time in the Green & White.

5: The Huskies are fourth in the conference with 20 goals scored through 10 games of action.

Scouting the Cougars

The Cougars also come into the weekend riding high. They have two wins and one tie over their last three games.

Bob Maltman, who is in his 12th year as head coach, is attempting to guide the Cougars to the postseason for the second-consecutive season.

Rookie Olivia Gables is leading the way offensively for Regina. The freshman strikes has scored four goals despite starting just four games this season.

Kylie Bolton and Savannah Williams have split time at goalkeeper for the Cougars. Bolton holds a record of 2-2-2 with 38 saves while Williams is at 1-2-1 with 19 stops.
