5 Things

1: The Huskies are fresh off a monumental weekend for their postseason hopes, recording two victories over their provincial rival Regina Cougars.

2: The Huskies now sit in fifth place in the Prairie division, three points ahead of the Cougars, and four points behind the Manitoba Bisons with four games to go.

3: Defender Kalli Cowles had a tremendous weekend for the team as she recorded a goal and an assist during the two games versus the Cougars.

4: First-year forward Payton Izsak continued to build on her spectacular season, as the freshmen scored her team-leading fourth goal on Oct. 6. Making it four goals in her past eight games for the Huskies.

5: Six of the Huskies ten goals on the season have come from first-year players.

By the Numbers:

0 - First-year goalkeeper Hope Pelk has allowed zero goals in her first two career starts for the Huskies.

10 – Maya Gabruch, Taneil Gay and Jackson Wiegers have been stalwarts in the Huskies lineup this season, with all three players starting in all ten of the team's games.

11 - The Huskies have had 11 rookies play for the club through ten games this season.

65.3% - Saskatchewan leads the Canada West with 65.3% of their shots being struck on goal.

Scouting the Thunderbirds

The UBC Thunderbirds appear positioned to make yet another deep postseason run in 2018, as the 2017 Canada West bronze-medalists stand right near the top of the Pacific division with an 8-2 record. Trailing the Trinity Western Spartans by only three points, this road trip could prove pivotal for the Thunderbirds if they wish to finish in first place in the division.

UBC has scored 29 goals, while only allowing seven in their own net this season, and are winners of their last five matches.

Michelle Jang and Danielle Steer have combined to score 14 of those goals, as the pair of powerful strikers have each tallied seven goals apiece, which ties them for second in the Canada West in that category.

Goalkeeper Emily Moore has appeared in eight of ten games this season, and the third-year Thunderbird has been excellent. Recording a sparkling 0.93 goals-against average to go along with a 6-2 record.

Scouting the Vikes

Victoria enters Saskatoon with an eye towards making a late rise up the Pacific Division standings. As it stands currently, this match could be a potential playoff preview as the Vikes are currently on a crash course to meet with the Huskies in the play-in game to decide who qualifies for the Canada West quarterfinals.

Victoria will come to Saskatchewan with a one game losing streak under their belts, which will be a trend the Huskies will hope to extend. The Vikes lead the UFV Cascades in the standings by only two points and will be hoping to pad that cushion as they take on their prairie division foes.

Third-year forward Georgia Bignold leads the Vikes in goals and points, and has recorded five goals and an assist while starting in all of ten of Victoria's games this season.

Puck Louwes has logged all 900 minutes in between the Vikes pipes this season, as the fourth-year keeper has a 4-5-1 record in the 2018 season. Louwes, a native of Netherlands, was a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, as well as the University of Victoria Female Athlete of the Year in the 2017 season for the Vikes.
