ST. JOHN'S, N.L. – The University of Saskatchewan (USask) Huskie Track & Field program was well represented on the 2025 Canada Games podium, contributing heavily to a Team Saskatchewan which secured a 5th-place finish. Recording 48 trips to the podium, 11 of Team Sask's medals came from current and future Huskie track and field athletes representing their province in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador.
Fifth-year Olamide Olaloku, fourth-year Grace Igbiki, and incoming recruit Hailee Woodhouse were the only Huskie athletes to reach the top of the podium. Olaloku did so in the triple jump, besting the second-placed athlete by 0.27m, while Igbiki and Woodhouse helped the 4x400m relay to gold over British Columbia.
Both Igbiki and Woodhouse also combined with fellow Huskies Selena Keyowski and Timi Adelugba in the 4x100m. With the quartet of USask athletes totaling a time of 46.14 to claim silver and a Saskatchewan senior provincial record.
Rounding out the female medalists was once again Igbiki and Woodhouse, this time as individuals in the 200 and 400m. In the 200m, the pair crossed the finish line within four tenths of a second, with Woodhouse narrowly edging out her future teammate for silver while Igbiki took home bronze. The soon-to-be rookie would then capture her fourth medal of the games in the 400m, adding another silver for Team Saskatchewan.
On the men's side, both Nathan Pinno and Logan Kok captured U20 provincial records in addition to Canada Games hardware. Pinno did so in the shot put thanks to a toss of 16.48m which he achieved on his second-to-last throw of the event to take silver. Meanwhile, Kok earned a bronze medal in the decathlon with a 6,259-point performance. The second-year athlete captured six top three finishes on his way to the podium, including first place finishes in the shot put and 400m.
In the relay events, the 4x100m men's team matched the women's, recording a Saskatchewan senior provincial record with a time of 40.95 seconds. Among the record-setting quartet to take bronze were three USask athletes in Geovanne Powel, Liam Oster, and Williams Ogunnubi.
For Ogunnubi, a third-year athlete, it was the second of two bronze medals after crossing the finish line just two hundredths of a second behind second place in the 100m sprint.
Rounding out the Team Saskatchewan Huskie medalists was middle distance specialist and sophomore athlete Michael Hussey. Hussey crossed the finish line with a time of 1:50.79 to earn bronze, adding to an impressive summer which also features U20 Canadian Championship gold.
Also in action in St. John's was Huskie alumna, Jenica Swartz, who took home a pair of medals for Team Alberta. Swartz captured the top spot on the podium in the 1500m before doubling down with bronze in the 800m.
At the completion of the 2025 Canada Games, current, former, and incoming Huskie athletes combined for three gold medals, four silver medals, and six bronze medals.
In other Track & Field action, Huskie alumna Avery Pearson represented the country at the Junior Pan Am Games in Asunción, Paraguay. The 11-time All-Canadian captured a silver medal in the 800m, finishing just over two tenths of a second behind the gold medalist from Brazil.
