SASKATOON, Sask. - This past weekend in Ottawa, Huskie Track & Field excellence was on display at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility as future, current, and former Huskies competed among the best U20 and Senior track & field athletes from across the country. The 2025 Canadian Track & Field Championships, presented by Bell, saw a total of 26 athletes connected to the University of Saskatchewan (USask) Track & field program take centre stage with six taking home hardware and fifteen earning top-10 finishes.
"The Canadian U20 and Senior Championships are the deepest and most competitive competitions of the year within the country and to see our Huskies stand on the podium and push themselves amongst the best of the best is not only a huge accomplishment for them, their coaches, and their support systems but also for our future as a program," said Head Coach
Jason Reindl.
If Huskie fans should take anything away from last weekend's championships, it's that the future is bright for USask Track & Field. Of the eight medals secured by Huskies, seven were from U20 athletes and three came from athletes approaching their rookie seasons in 2025-26.
Incoming recruit Hailee Woodhouse (Dilke, SK) got things going for Huskie podiums Friday (Aug. 1), claiming her first of two silver medals in the U20 400m with a personal best of 53.62 seconds. Two days later she set another new career mark, this time running the 200m in 23.70 seconds to return to the podium.
Also reaching the podium on Friday with a personal best was 2025-26 sophomore
Nathan Pinno (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) who earned silver in the U20 discus with a toss of 50.39m. Pinno then returned on Sunday with an even better performance in the shot put, recording a throw of 18.64m, another personal best, to take gold by over 1.50m.
On Saturday (Aug. 2), soon-to-be rookie Alyssa Mathieson (Sylvan Lake, AB) captured the third medal by an incoming Huskie recruit. After entering the weekend ranked No. 1 in high jump, Mathieson successfully defended her ranking, jumping 1.68m to claim national gold.
U20 600m record holder
Michael Hussey (Saskatoon, SK) made it a trio of Huskie gold medalists after crossing the finish line with a time of 1:49.23 in the 800m on Sunday (Aug. 3). The second-year student-athlete took the top spot on the podium by just under two seconds, with the second-placed athlete running a 1:51.14.
Rounding out the U20 medalists was sophomore
Logan Kok (Saskatoon, SK), who earned a silver medal in the decathlon with 6,677 points. Kok, ranked 7th in the combined event prior to the weekend, earned one first-place finish (shot put), four second-place finishes (pole vault, discus, 400m, 100m), two third-place finishes (high jump, 1500m), two fourth-place finishes (long jump, javelin), and an eighth-place finish (110m hurdles) on his way to the podium. The former Holy Cross Crusader was only surpassed by Jackson Mackay of the London Western T&F Club who set a new national U20 record with 7,652 points.
Finally, one former Huskie earned a top-3 finish in USask alumna
Jenica Swartz who earned bronze in the senior 800m with a personal best time of 2:02.46.
Other top-10 finishes from Huskies included
Avery Pearson (4th, senior 800m),
