On the women's side, the Huskies will be looking to return to the conference podium after seeing a streak of third-place finishes come to an end at last year's championships. While the team features a young roster, they have showed steady of growth throughout the season and will rely on a trio of experience student-athletes to lead the way with strong performances. Â
Â
Third-year
Morgan Tiede has led the team through two races this season, claiming first-place at the Dakota Classic and following it up with a 22nd-place finish at the Canada West Cross Country Challenge. Team captain and fourth-year athlete
Brooklyn Roney, along with Angelina Beverdige-Warick—who is in her first year of competition but second with the team—are expected to round out the top three.Â
Â
Meanwhile rookie Nathalie Toledo will be making her racing debut in Victoria, while fellow first-year athletes
Kyra Shelton,
Petra Tymko, and
Samantha Stewart are set to get the green light to push in their championship debuts. Â
Â
On the men's side, the Huskies are eager to prove that last year's historic podium finish—their first on 22 years and just one point shy of second place—was no fluke. Fifth-year
Alexander Webster has been the team's top performer this season, recording a second-place finish at the Dakota Classic and fourth-place at the Canada West Cross Country Challenge. The local Saskatoon product will also look to build on a 12th-place finish and All-Star selection at the Canada West Championship a season ago.Â
Â
Fellow fifth-year student-athletes
Anthony Antaya and
Kaiden Deck will also need to be key contributors if the men are to score low one again in 2025.Â
Â
Despite being a veteran team, the men still boast several young, talented athletes who could make the difference come race day. Freshman
Bennett Friesen has impressed with fourth- and 23rd-place finishes in his first two collegiate races, while third-year
Jacob White has also had a strong season with fifth- and 23rd-place results.Â
Â
With a roster that blends depth, experience, and an eagerness to compete, the men's program which, just a few years ago, struggled to field a team, is now a testament to what consistent development and team building can achieve.Â
Â
Head Coach
Jason Reindl has credited both this transformation and the team's current success to the coaching staff, stating "Lead Endurance Coach
Jamie Epp continues to do an exceptional job in guiding the day to day training plan and programming within the cross-country team. His experience as one of the best cross country athletes the conference has ever seen and as a coach who continues to prepare athletes to be at the best come championship season is something that I and the entire program as a whole is proud to see in action."
