Sixteen student-athletes are set to make the trip east to Quebec for the national championships, with an 8km race around the Stade de l'Université de Sherbrooke awaiting them.
For the Huskie men's cross country team, the squad of eight racers will be led by fifth-year student-athletes
Anthony Antaya and
Alexander Webster. Coming off Canada West First Team All-Star performances in Victoria (Antaya 4th, Webster 6th) the pair will represent the green & white for the final time in their cross country careers and look to improve upon their finishes a season ago. At the 2024 championships in Kelowna, the two races earned 41st and 42nd-place finishes, helping the Huskies tie their best-ever finish in over two decade—13th-place, achieved in both 2004 and 2021.
Joining Antaya and Webster will be
Kaiden Deck, another fifth-year athlete looking to improve upon an 88th-place finish in Kelwona, while
Jacob White (91st in 2024) and
Jayvin Cross Child (104th in 2024) hope to follow suit. White, along with rookie Bennett Freisen, second-year
Justin Schuler, and fourth-year
Ben House will look to compete to the best of their abilities and gain valuable experience with the group set to take over in 2026 following the departure of fifth-years Antaya, Webster, and Deck.
On the women's side,
Morgan Tiede has been the top finisher for the team all season long as will be expected to continue that trend in Sherbrooke. Joining her is team captain
Brooklyn Roney, who is coming off her strongest race of the season at the conference championships, where she earned a 28th-place finish. As the only two student-athletes with U SPORTS experience, the remaining members of the Huskie women's team—
Angelina Beveridge-Warick, Nathalie Toledo,
Petra Tymko,
Samantha Stewart, and second-year
Attleigh Maloney—will be looking to soak in as much experience as possible and challenge themselves against the toughest competition of the season. With the entire group slated to return for the 2026 season, Sherbrooke offers a valuable opportunity for development in preparation for their future return to the national stage.
The 2025 U SPORTS Championships get underway at 1 PM local time (12 PM CST) with the men's race, followed by the women race at 2:15 PM local (1:15 PM CST).
