Gage Grassick's Record-Setting Night Helps Lifts Huskies Over Bisons

Box Score SASKATOON, Sask. – The Saskatchewan Huskies set the pace early in their home opener against the Manitoba Bisons on the Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex Friday evening (Nov. 8), securing their first win of the 2024-25 season.

The Huskies had a slow start to the season, falling 0-2 to the Calgary Dinos in their 2024-25 season opener in Calgary the previous weekend. Though the Bisons came into the weekend with a 0-1 record, the Huskies would quickly get back into the win column with a dominant 92-48 win over the Bisons.

Since winning the 2023-24 Canada West title, the Huskies' first home game saw the Championship banner raised to the rafters as part of the pregame show. The Huskies recorded a 19-1 regular season record, ultimately defeating the Alberta Pandas in the Canada West final 73-42.

After consecutive missed baskets by both teams, Téa DeMong was the first to hit the scoreboard with a quick jumper from the top of the key. From there, the Huskies took the lead and never looked back. The Huskies finished the quarter doubling the Bison's score, 24-12.

Despite the Bison's best performance of the night coming in the second quarter with 17 points, the Huskies kept their foot on the gas, leaving the Bisons in the rear view. The Dogs proceeded to put up 26 points in the second to reach the 50-point mark by the half, and the third saw another 25 points added to the Huskies' side of the score sheet, making it a 75-38 game in favour of Saskatchewan.

Both teams utilized their bench, with the Bison's bench scoring 28 of their 48 total and the Huskies' bench recording 38 of their 92. Anna Miko led the Bisons in scoring with 11 points.

Gage Grassick had a night, recording the first-ever regular season triple-double in Huskie Women's Basketball History, recording 18 points, ten rebounds, and 12 assists. The triple-double was also just the 12th in the history of Canada West women's basketball, dating back to 2000. The Huskies had four players put up double digits on the night.
