For the Huskie men's cross country team, the 2024 season has been one of the most successful of the 21st century, and now the team is looking to close it out with a strong performance on the national stage. Two weeks ago, the Dogs captured 3rd-place at the 2024 Canada West Championships, the first podium position since 2002, now they'll be looking to break another 22-year streak. It was been 22 years since the team earned a top-10 finish at the national championships, with the last time being a 5th-place finish. With the success seen this season, and a strong group of runners, there is no reason to think they can't do it again. The team is led by a pair of veteran student-athletes in Alexander Webster (Saskatoon, SK) and Quincy Fast (Saskatoon, SK). Webster, a fourth-year engineering major earned a 12th-place finish and second team all-star status at the conference championships with teammate Fast, a fifth-year physical therapy student, crossing the finish line just behind him in 13th, also earning Canada West all-star status. To reach their goal the Dogs will look to runners like Anthony Antaya, Kaiden Deck, and Jacob White, the other point-scorers at the conference championships, among others to have strong performances.

On the women's side, the Huskies will also be looking to get back into the top-10 after back-to-back 12th-place finishes .The last time the USask women did so was just three seasons ago in 2021, when the Huskies captured a 5th-place finish. Two weeks ago at the Canada West championships the Huskies finished just outside of the podium positions in 4th-place, after injuries restricted some of their top-runners from racing. Despite finsihing outside of the medal positions, the team saw another impressive performance from perennial all-star Kaitlyn Harrison. The fifth-year agriculture & bioresources major finished 4th among conference competition and will now be looking to continue a streak of top-10 finishes at nationals. At the previous three U SPORTS Championships, Harrison has earned 3rd- (2023), 6th- (2022), and 5th-place (2021) finishes, demonstrating her talent as one of the most skilled distance runners in the nation. The Huskies will also be looking for another all-star performance from fourth-year Jenica Swartz who crossed the finish line in 10th two weeks ago and has also had success on the national stage with a 14th-place finish in 2023, earning second team All-Canadian status.

Seven runners from each team will lineup for the 8km competition, with lineups being determined on the day before or morning of.

The 2024 U SPORTS Championships get underway at 12:00 PM local time (2:00 PM Central) with the men's race before the women line up at 1:00 PM local (3:00 PM Central).
