SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team continues their quest towards a return to the Canada West Championship game on Thursday night when they welcome the Lethbridge Pronghorns to the PAC for a semifinal series.
Â
Saskatchewan has the luxury of staying in Saskatoon for the entirety of their postseason run, with the program locking up the number one overall seed in the Canada West, assuring them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. If the Huskies are victorious this weekend the Canada West Championship game would take place on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court on Friday, March 1.
Â
Lethbridge enters the weekend with three post-season games under their belt. The Pronghorns defeated the Manitoba Bisons 99-60 in a Play-in game before going on the road and upsetting the Alberta Pandas by scores of 90-66 and 67-60.
Â
Saskatchewan and Lethbridge played on Jan. 4 and 5 in Saskatoon, with the Huskies recording the sweep thanks to a pair of convincing victories. The Huskies won 93-59 on Friday night, with
Sabine Dukate paving the way with 21 points. Dukate chalked up 14 points the following night in a 76-57 win to seal a successful start to 2019 for the Huskies.
Â
5 Things
Â
1: The Huskies are chasing their sixth-consecutive Canada West Championship appearance, with the team winning three conference titles in the last five seasons.
Â
2: The victor of this series will also book their ticket to the U SPORTS National Championship tournament.
Â
3: Saskatchewan has won the past 11 meetings between the two teams.
Â
4: Lethbridge swept the Pandas in the quarter-finals in part due to holding Alberta well below their season average in points.
Â
5: Both the quarter-finals and semifinals are best-of-three while the CW Championship will be decided in one game.
By the Numbers
12 – The Huskies have won all 12 games that they have played at home this season.

Scouting the Pronghorns
Â
Head coach Dave Waknuk is in his first year as interim head coach of the Pronghorns and has guided the team back to the semifinals for the first time since 1995.
Â

Â
The three-ball played a large role in Lethbridge's upset sweep of the Pandas as the team shot 47.6% and 58.8% in their two victories.
