SASKATOON – After receiving a first round bye, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's basketball team will open up their postseason by welcoming the Regina Cougars to town for a best-of-three series.

The Huskies are in pursuit of their second conference title in program history and earned the right to host the Cougars by finishing fourth in the Canada West RPI standings after a strong regular season schedule.

Regina is fresh off a convincing 106-83 victory over top of the Mount Royal Cougars at the CKHS in the Canada West play-in game. Fourth-year guard Myles Hamilton led the way for Regina totalling 27 points on 12-17 shooting, while chipping in 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.

The Huskies and Cougars are no stranger to one another, as the teams just met up in Regina in the final weekend of the regular season. Saskatchewan completed a 17-point comeback in the second half on the first night of the back-to-back to win 102-97. While the Cougars bounced back to take pick up the split with a 96-88 victory.

5 Things

1: The Huskies have qualified for the postseason in 15 of the past 16 seasons.

2: Saskatchewan and Reginas last playoff meeting was in the 2010-11 season, where the Huskies swept the Cougars in a best-of-three series at the PAC.

3. Barry Rawlyk will be looking to add another two victories to his 16-11 career record in the Canada West playoffs.

4: Lawrence Moore is tied for second in the Canada West with 19.8 points-per-game this season, including 32 and 24-point performances against the Cougars.

5: Fans under the age of 18 will receive a complimentary ticket to Friday night's game.

By the Numbers

6-4 – The Huskies are 6-4 at the PAC, while the Cougars are 6-4 on the road this season.

44.0% – Carter Millar has developed into an under-the-radar threat from beyond-the-arc, with the second year forward shooting a Canada West leading clip of 44.0% from three-point-range.

Scouting the Cougars

Regina head coach Steve Burrows, who was hired to lead the program in 2010, is pursuing the first Canada West title in Cougars program history.

Greishe Clerjuste, Myles Hamilton, Sam Hillis and Carter Millar are all averaging double digit points this season.

Sam Hillis led Regina in rebounds this season, averaging 8.1 boards per game, while adding in 11.7 points per game.

The Cougars have relied on a steady pipeline from Dr. Martin Leboldus High School, with six players on their roster having suited up for the Suns, who are a Saskatchewan high school basketball powerhouse, with the school winning four of the past six 5A provincial championships.
