SASKATOON – The Canada West leading University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team will get the second half of their schedule underway this weekend when they host the Lethbridge Pronghorns for a pair of games on Jan. 4 and 5.
Â
With tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. both nights, the Huskies, who enter the weekend on a six-game winning streak and are ranked No. 6 in the nation, will be looking to get 2019 off to a strong start against a Pronghorns team that currently holds a record of 5-5.
Â
Saskatchewan ended 2018 not only by winning their final six games, but also outscoring their opponents by a combined mark of 531-262.
Â
Lethbridge opened up their Canada West campaign with four victories in a row but a tough schedule down the stretch saw them win just one of their final six games in 2018.
Â
The Huskies last tangled with the Pronghorns on Jan. 13 and 14 during the 2016-17 season, in Lethbridge. Saskatchewan was victorious in both contests as they opened the series with a 75-63 win and followed that up with a 88-53 victory in the second game of the back-to-back to sweep the series.
Five Things
Â
1: While the Huskies have the best record in the conference, they sit second in RPI – which is used to seed the 12 teams that make the Canada West playoffs – behind the Calgary DinosÂ
2: Lethbridge holds the edge in the historical series between the teams, but the Huskies have won the last nine meetings between the two.
3:Â The games could be a defensive battle with the Huskies allowing the fewest points-per-game in the conference and Lethbridge not far behind in fourth.
4:Â One area the Huskies could exploit the Pronghorns defence is beyond the arc. Saskatchewan knocks downs the most three-pointers of any team in the conference while Lethbridge is currently surrendering the third-most threes per-game.
5:Â This will be the second to last home weekend of the regular season for Saskatchewan.
By the Numbers
Â
6 – The Huskies were a perfect 6-0 at home during the first half of their schedule.
Â
8 – The Huskies have spread the ball around with eight players averaging over five points per-game.
Â
323 – Saskatchewan outscored their opponents by 323 points in the first half of the season.
Â

Â
Scouting the Pronghorns
Â
Filling in for head coach Dave Adams who is on leave, Dave Waknuk is at the helm of the Pronghorns for the first time in his career. Waknuk and the Pronghorns are aiming to get into the playoffs for the secÂond-straight year.
Â
Lethbridge is a team with solid fundamentals, they sit fifth in the conÂference by allowing just 64.8 points per-game and work hard to get to the free-throw line where they are fourth in the conference in free throws made per-game.
Â
Kacie Bosch leads the way with 12.5 points per game while Katie Keith grabs 9.4 boards per contest.
