Huskie Men’s Hockey Adds Former NCAA and SJHL Forward Jaeden Mercier

SASKATOON, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men's Hockey team and head coach Brandin Cote announced today the signing of former NCAA and SJHL forward Jaeden Mercier.

"Jaeden is another strong local addition who brings maturity, hockey sense, and reliable two‑way play," said Cote. "His NCAA Division I experience against older, heavier competition has accelerated his development, and that background will be a major asset to our team this season."

"A big part of my decision was seeing the recent success [the Huskies] have had and wanting to be a part of that," said Mercier. "Also, the chance to play at home again. It has been a while since I've been able to play in front of my family and friends, so [I'm] excited to do that as well."

A 5-foot-11 forward and local Saskatoon product, Mercier joins the reigning Canada West Champions from Lindenwood University, an independent NCAA Division I program, where he appeared in 87 games over three seasons from 2023 to 2026. During his career with the Lions, he recorded 14 goals and 30 points, totaling career highs of 11 points in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Prior to his NCAA career, Mercier was a member of the SJHL's Flin Flon Bombers for four seasons from 2019 to 2023. Appearing in 123 regular season games, he recorded 35 goals and 111 points which included a career-best 50-point season in 2022-23.

In the postseason, Mercier was a part of two playoff runs for the Bombers which included a 2021-22 appearance in the SJHL Championship. In 25 career playoff games, he totaled 8 goals and 19 points.

Mercier's signing marks the first of the 2026 offseason for the Huskies, who have officially begun preparations for the 2026-27 season as the program looks successfully defend their back-to-back conference titles.
