WATERLOO, Ont. - For the third consecutive year, the top 107 Canadian University football players who are eligible for next year's CFL Draft will descend on Waterloo, Ontario, for the 2026 U SPORTS East-West Bowl. The event offers a minimum of three players in their third or fourth years of eligibility from the 27 U SPORTS programs across the nation the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of coaches, general managers, and personnel from the Canadian Football League.
A total of five student-athletes from the University of Saskatchewan (USask) football program will take part in this year's game. Representing the Saskatchewan Huskies on the Team West defence is 2025 All-Canadian defensive lineman
Reece McCormick along with fourth-year lineman
Riece Kack and third-year defensive back
Ethan Laing. On the opposite side of the ball, two pass catchers are set to showcase their talents in 2026 Canada West All-Star
Daniel Kubongo and third-year
Dawson Lennea.
USask will also be well-represented on the sidelines with Huskie Football Head Coach and 2025 Canada West Coach of the Year
Scott Flory set to lead Team West after piloting the Huskies to a third Vanier Cup appearance this past season. Joining Flory on the Team West staff is Huskie Offensive Coordinator Mason Nyhus who will serve the same role in Waterloo. The 2025 season saw Nyhus help guide the Huskies to a 7-1 record and produce the most productive offensive unit in Canada West.
Opposite Flory and Nyhus and set to serve as Team East Head Coach is Steve Snyder, head coach of the Yates Cup Champion Queen's Gaels. The showcase game will serve as the second time this year Flory and Snyder have gone head-to-head, with the Huskies having defeated the Gaels 22-11 in the 2025 Mitchell Bowl.
The game is set to kickoff on Saturday, May 9, 2024 at 12:30pm (ET), with this year's game marking the 22nd playing of the East-West Bowl. In addition to the all-star game, the event will also feature a a virtual coaches clinic on April 11 and 12.
