Saskatchewan Battles Back from Two-Goal Deficit in 2-2 Draw

SASKATOON, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Huskies erased a two-goal first-half deficit to salvage a 2-2 draw against the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon, scoring twice in the final 23 minutes to earn a valuable point as the Canada West regular season enters its final stage.

Despite controlling much of the play from the outset, the Huskies found themselves trailing 2-0 after a frustrating opening 45 minutes. Saskatchewan generated eight first-half shots and forced Sabrina Alexander into five saves, but it was MacEwan that capitalized on its opportunities. Hannah Corrigan opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing off individual effort which saw her force a turnover deep in Huskie territory. Just under six minutes later, Lillie Pearson doubled the visitors' advantage from the penalty spot, giving MacEwan a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Huskies emerged from the break determined to turn the match around and continued to pile on pressure. Saskatchewan outshot MacEwan 10-1 in the second half and consistently tested Alexander, who finished with 11 saves in the contest.

The breakthrough finally came in the 68th minute. Moments after having a shot blocked, Isabelle Lachance found the back of the net off a corner kick sequence, converting a pass from Danielle Lehmann to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal was Lachance's fourth of the season and gave the Huskies renewed momentum for the final stretch.

Saskatchewan continued pressing for the equalizer, and the breakthrough arrived in dramatic fashion in the 87th minute when Cassidy Vieira scored her third of the season, tying the match at 2-2 with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

The late goal capped a dominant offensive performance from the Huskies, who finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots and a 13-5 edge in shots on goal. Vieira and Lachance each scored once, while Lehmann contributed an assist. Midfielder Jenna Steacy was also heavily involved in the attack, registering three shots on target.

At the other end, goalkeeper Alyssa Paydli made three saves for Saskatchewan, including a key stop midway through the second half that preserved the one-goal deficit and kept the Huskies within striking distance.

The comeback result moves Saskatchewan to 5-3-3 on the season, while MacEwan leaves Saskatoon with a 6-3-2 record after seeing a two-goal lead slip away.

THe Huskies return to Griffiths Sunday afternoon (12:00 PM) for their final home game of the 2026 regular season.
