SASKATOON, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Huskies closed out their regular season home schedule in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon (Oct. 18), defeating the Alberta Pandas 4-0 at Griffiths Stadium. The victory improved Saskatchewan's record to 6-3-3 as the Huskies controlled play from start to finish, outshooting Alberta 18-2 and holding the visitors to just one shot on goal.
It took just over five minutes for the Huskies to open the scoring. Fifth-year senior
Cheyenne Lehmann fittingly opened the scoring on what served as Saskatchewan's 2026 Senior Day game, finishing a setup from
Isabelle Lachance for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Huskie lead.
The Huskies continued to push the pace and doubled their advantage midway through the opening half. Following a corner kick opportunity, defender
Daraida Sutherland found the back of the net in the 26th minute, giving Saskatchewan a two-goal cushion and with her second goal of the campaign.
The home side dominated possession throughout the first 45 minutes, generating nine shots while preventing Alberta from registering a single attempt. Despite strong pressure from the Huskies, Alberta goalkeeper Tessa Borrelli kept the scoreline manageable with a pair of first-half saves.
Alberta managed to create its lone shot on target early in the second half, but Huskie goalkeeper
Alyssa Paydli was equal to the task, making the save to preserve the clean sheet. It would be the only shot on goal Saskatchewan allowed all afternoon.
The Huskies continued to press for insurance markers and eventually broke through again in the 76th minute. After sustained pressure in the Alberta end, substitute
Madison Mayert scored her second goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0.
Just over three minutes later, another Saskatchewan substitute added to the advantage.
Eva Ricken capitalized in the 80th minute, netting her first career Canada West goal to complete the scoring and put the finishing touches on a convincing 4-0 victory.
The Huskies finished with a 13-1 edge in shots on goal and earned six corner kicks compared to none for Alberta. Borrelli was busy throughout the afternoon, making nine saves for the Pandas, while Paydli recorded the clean sheet with just one save.
Cheyenne Lehmann,
Eva Ricken, and Madi Mayert each registered three or more shots in the win as Saskatchewan's attack generated chances from all areas of the field.
Saskatchewan will close out the regular season next weekend with back-to-back matches on the road against the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
