2025-26 Season Preview: Huskie Track & Field

SASKATOON, Sask. – This weekend (Jan. 9 & 10), the University of Saskatchewan (USask) Huskie track & field teams will officially begin their 2025-26 season and kick off the new year on their home track with the Saskatoon Field House set to host the 2026 Sanderson Classic. The latest campaign will see the Huskies bookend their conference season at home, with USask also set to play host to the 2026 Canada West Championships on February 20-21.

A dominant force in the Canada West track & field landscape, the Huskies will look to continue their winning ways in 2025-26 with the Saskatchewan women in search of an 8th consecutive title, while the men will look to return to the conference podium.

Huskie WT&F 2025 Canada West Champs. In the past 11 seasons, the Saskatchewan Huskies have captured more Canada West banners (9) than any other program in the conference, including sweeps of both the men's and women's championships in 2016 and 2019. More recently, the USask women have claimed bragging rights for seven straight seasons, setting a new conference record for consecutive championships, previously held by the Huskie women from 1997-2001. During this impressive streak, the Dogs have also reached the podium at the U SPORTS championships five times with silver medal finishes in 2019, 2022, and 2025, and bronze medal finishes in 2020 and 2023.

The 2025-26 edition of the Huskie women features an impressive group of veteran student-athletes returning to the program and a leadership group that has been a key part of the recent program successes. At the same time, the team has reloaded with some exciting new talent in the shape of proven rookies who have a future as point scorers and medalists in Canada West. While the offseason saw some key contributors depart, this year's roster is stronger thanks to impressive depth, allowing multiple performers in several key events.

On the other side, the USask men feature a robust roster, also strong in depth, in part thanks to a fantastic incoming recruiting class. Former Huskie recruiting lead Spencer House has done the 2025-26 edition of the Huskies plenty of favours, securing top-tier talent including freshmen Niklos Irwin, Brodie Steeves, Zayden Anderson, and Rowan Reimer. This group of athletes has the skills and abilities to make an impact and, combined with returning contributors such as Michael Hussey, Nathan Pinno, Hadley Benson, Parker Lavoie, and Joshua Tam, event gaps have been filled come meet days.

The goal for both teams is a conference banner at home, and success will be determined by a clean sweep at the Saskatoon Field House on February 20 & 21, 2026.

Sprints & Hurdles

WOMEN

The 2025-26 Huskie women's sprints & hurdles group is likely the deepest on the roster, featuring an impressive combination of veteran talent and incoming skilled rookies. The group returns the majority of the 4x200m program record-setting team in Hannah Hagerty (Regina, SK), Grace Igbiki (Calgary, AB), and Selena Ann Keyowski (Saskatoon, SK)Timi Adelugba at 2025 U SPORTS Championships and half of the four members of the 4x400m relay team (Igbiki, Keyowski) who also set new program best in 2025. Three of the returning relay team members enter 2025-26 coming off strong offseasons with Igbiki (Gold – 4x400m, Silver – 4x100m, 200m) and Keyowski (Silver 4x100m) impressing for Team Sask. at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.

Incoming rookie Hailee Woodhouse should make a seamless entry into the group after also experiencing a fantastic summer. The Dilke, Saskatchewan product earned four medals at the Canada Summer Games (Gold – 4x400m, Silver – 400m, 200m, 4x100m), then took home two silver medals at the Canadian Track & Field Championships in the U20 200m and 400m.

A trio of student-athletes highlight the Huskie hurdlers in Nicole Ostertag (Saskatoon, SK), Timi Adelugba (Saskatoon, SK), and Kendyl Dziadyk (Saskatoon, SK). All three currently rank among the top-5 in the nation in the event, with Ostertag holding pole position with a season's best of 8.18. Meanwhile, Adelugba and Dziadyk find themselves fourth and fifth and just 0.12 and 0.24 seconds off the U SPORTS auto standard.

MEN
Also boasting plenty of depth, the men's sprints feature a trio of student-athletes looking to make an impact and contribute. Returners Williams Ogunnubi (Saskatoon, SK) and Geovanne Powell (Saskatoon, SK) Tiago Dimande at 2025 Sanderson Classicare back in green & white for their third and fourth season, respectively, and are each coming off medal performances at the Canada Summer Games. Ogunnubi secured a pair of bronze medals in the 100m and as a member of the 4x100m relay, in which Powell was also a part of, and set a senior provincial record. The pair is joined by newcomer Kyle Conteh (Regina, SK), a dual sport athlete who also competes on the Huskie Football team. In his first appearance as a member of the USask Track & Field team, Conteh finished first in the 60m dash at the PR First Chance meet in December.

Hurdles will feature four student-athletes, each capable of securing finals positions come February. Liam Oster (Lloydminster, AB), a 2025 Canada West silver medalist in the 60m hurdles, returns for his third season with the program after also representing the province on the bronze medal-winning 4x100m Canada Summer Games team. Oster currently ranks seventh in the nation after posting a time of 8.47 seconds in December. Tiago Dimande (Saskatoon, SK) also hopes to represent the Dogs and is off to a strong start after recording a time of 8.32 seconds at the PR First Chance meet. Finally, Hadley Benson (Spiritwood, SK) and Logan Kok (Saskatoon, SK) round out the quartet. Both enter the season after impressive offseasons, with Kok finishing eighth in the U20 110m hurdles at the Canadian Track & Field Championships.

Distance

WOMEN

The Saskatchewan distance runners saw the most significant effect of offseason departures. With podium regulars Avery Pearson and Jenica Swartz no longer competing in green & white, second-year Attleigh Maloney (Saskatoon, SK) Michael Hussey at 2025 Sanderson Classicand rookie Skylar Dyck (Saskatoon, SK) are set to carry the load. Maloney, who competes with the USask Cross Country team, owns a lone U SPORTS medal from the 2023 U SPORTS gold medal-winning 4x800m relay team. The Huskies might be in a retooling year when it comes to the distance events, but they are unbothered by how it will affect them come February, with many of the top athletes competing for teams outside of contention for team titles.

MEN
Michael Hussey (Saskatoon, SK) highlights the distance runners after producing a remarkable and record-setting freshman campaign in 2024-25. At the Penn State Open in late January, Hussey set a new U20 Canadian record and moved into 3rd all-time in program history in the 800m. He continued his impressive year into the offseason, capturing U20 gold at the Canadian Track & Field Championships (800m) and bronze at the Canada Summer Games (800m).

A pair of incoming rookies will look to follow in Hussey footsteps this season: Niklos Irwin and Jose Mateo Trejo Monroy, both local athletes from Bishop James Mahoney and Aden Bowman Collegiate, respectively.

Jumps

WOMEN

The jumps category features another deep group for the Huskies, who boast plenty of returning medalists and new talent. In the triple jump, Olamide Olaloku leads the way as a two-time Canada West gold medalist (2021 & 2024) Olamide Olaloku at 2025 Sanderson Classicand is coming off an impressive Canada Games performance, which saw the local Saskatoon product secure gold for Team Sask.

Sprinter Hannah Hagerty is one of the few athletes to excel in multiple disciplines and enters the 2025-26 season coming off conference gold in the long jump a season ago.

Meanwhile, a trio of athletes could represent the Dogs on the podium in the high jump. Returning for her fifth year with the program is Chelsea Ells (Saskatoon, SK), who currently ranks eighth in the nation with a jump of 1.64m at the Huskies' December Field Fest. Kianna Cadman (Warman, SK) joins the group as the lone former medallist, owning a 2023 Canada West silver medal. Finally, newcomer Alyssa Mathieson (Sylvan Lake, AB) joins the Huskies following a U20 gold medal performance (1.68m) at the Canadian Track & Field Championships and already ranks eleventh in the country.

Throws

WOMEN

Fifth-year student-athlete Kira Comfort (Nipawin, SK) leads the Huskie throwers following a pair of bronze medals in the 2025 Canada West Championships. Comfort took home 3rd-place in the shot put with a throw of 13.13m before securing a podium position in the pentathlon thanks in part to an improvement Nathan Pinno at 2025 Sanderson Classicof 35cm in the pentathlon shot put event.

Comfort is joined by veteran Jessica McBride (Saskatoon, SK), who enters her fourth year with the program, as well as Camryn Nelson and Breanna Schultz, a pair of rookies eager to see how they perform against Canada West competition.

MEN
Another student-athlete coming off an exciting offseason, Nathan Pinno (Fort Saskatchewan, AB), headlines the Huskie throwers. At the Canadian Track & Field Championships, Pinno secured both a gold and silver medal, claiming the top spot by over 1.5m in the U20 shot put and finishing second in the U20 discus. Just a couple of weeks later, he took home another medal in shot put at the Canada Summer Games, earning silver with a toss of 16.48m, which also made him the new owner of the U20 provincial record.

With an open field in 2025-26, thanks to the graduation of some key athletes across the conference, Pinno, along with teammates Parker Lavoie (Estevan, SK) and Wyatt Behiel (Moose Jaw, SK), will have a great opportunity to represent the Dogs on the Canada West podium at home.

Combined Events

WOMEN

Comfort returns to represent the Huskies in the pentathlon coming off a 2025 Canada West bronze which saw her earn top-5 finishes in shot put (1st), long jump (4th), and the 800m (4th). She will be joined by Timi Adelugba who, after five years of specializing in the hurdles, is keen to make her fifth and final year with the program a big one and will look to take on the challenge of the pentathlon. Logan Kok at 2025 CW Champs.

Finally, rookie Anya Krueger (Wilcox, SK) joins the fold after previously representing Team Sask. in the Royal Canadian Legion's National Championships.

MEN
In the heptathlon, the Huskies will look to replace Jake Neufeld, who graduated as a key performer, two-time Canada West medalist, and leader following the 2025-26 season. Luckily, a trio of talented student-athletes remain in Logan Kok (Saskatoon, SK), Joshua Tam (Saskatoon, SK), and Hadley Benson (Spiritwood, SK). Kok returns for his sophomore season with the Huskies after a fantastic offseason in which he set a U20 provincial record and earned bronze in the decathlon at the Canada Summer Games with a 6,259-point performance. Two weeks prior, he earned U20 silver in the same event at the Canadian Track & Field Championships, setting up an exciting season in Canada West. Tam, meanwhile, also impressed in Ottawa at the Track & Field Championships, finishing eighth in the senior pole vault.
