Looking Ahead
Week four's clash between the Huskies and Rams will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2024 Hardy Cup—more than 300 days ago. Last season's title fight saw the No. 4-seed Rams hand the No. 3-seed Huskies a 19-14 loss on their home turf to claim their second Canada West Championship in program history.
The two teams now face off with each other, not as underdogs, but as the conference's hottest teams through the opening weeks of the 2025 season. The Huskies, despite coming off their first loss of the campaign, rank second in Canada West in both points per game (33.3) and yards per game (441.3) while the Rams sit above the Dogs in both categories, averaging 42.3 points per game and 501.7 yards per game. Defensively, the edge goes to the Huskies, who have held opponents to just 18.3 points per game to the Ram's 26.3.
With the offensive firepower both teams bring to the gridiron, defence will be at a premium, as fans at Griffiths can expect to see plenty of offensive talent on display. The Huskies are led by a dynamic trio in quarterback
Anton Amundrud (882 yds, 8 TDs), running back
Ryker Frank (289 yds, 1 TD), and receiver
Daniel Wiebe (357 yds, 2 TDs) who will go head-to-head with Regina's own potent trio of Noah Pelletier (886 yds, 5 TDs), Marshall Erichsen (482 yds, 6 TDs), and Nicholas Sirleaf (367 yds, 2 TDs).
With both teams looking like early contenders for the 88th Hardy Cup, the 48th meeting between Saskatchewan and Regina is sure to have a significant impact on the Canada West landscape in 2025.
Friday's game will also mark the return of the U-Priaire Challenge, presented by SaskMilk, to both the campuses of the University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina featuring 11 sports across the 2025-26 season.
