Headed to their final competition of the 2024-25 season, the Huskie wrestling program is looking to build off a strong 18-medal, Canada West Championship showing on their home mats two weeks ago. With 18 student-athletes set to compete in St. Catharines this weekend, the Huskie women will be wrestling to return to the national podium after a third-place finish last year while the men will be looking to return to the podium following a 5th place finish a year ago.
Leading the way for the Saskatchewan women is
Myah Phillips (Saskatoon, Sask.)Â and
Sierra Mullin (Saskatoon, Sask.), the two USask gold medalists from conference championships. Phillips, a third-year arts & science student is looking to wrap up a perfect season with another first-place performance. Wrestling out of the 83kg weight class, Phillips has earned the top spot on the podium in all six meets she has competed in this season, which included posting a perfect 3-0 record at the Canada West Championships with each win coming by fall. A win this weekend would also see her get over the nationals hump, having earned back-to-back silver medals. Mullin meanwhile is also hoping to claim her first U SPORTS gold after back-to-back second-place finishes on the national stage. Competing out of the 53kg weight class, the third-year business major also has flawless season going with three wins to her name in 2024-25. Both Phillips and Mullin rank second in their respective classes ahead of the weekend's competition.Â
On the men's side
Donovan Neudorf (Prince Albert, SK), the lone USask men's gold medalist from two weeks ago, is looking to earn his first medal at nationals. In two U SPORTS Championships, Neudorf has earned 5th and 7th-place finishes wrestling out of the 65kg weight class. As the second-ranked wrestler in his class, the fourth-year arts & science student is poised for a strong showing, with only Western's Gavin Eldridge ranked higher heading into the tournament.Â
Action from Canada Games Park gets underway bright an early, with the first matches beginning at 8:00 AM CST. Friday features two sessions of round robin matches before placement and medal matches get underway Saturday, once again set to start at 8:00 AM CST.Â
