CALGARY, Alta. - In their first action of the 2025-26 season, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie Wrestling teams had a strong outing in Calgary with the USask men winning the Dino Open while the Huskie women earned a second-place finish in the team standings.
In a tightly contested men's division, the Huskie men captured the Dino open title thanks to a pair of podiums. In the 72kg weight class, rookie
Takis Sembalerus earned gold while fellow freshman
Yuel Kebrom secured silver in the 61kg weight class.Â
On the women's side, Saskatchewan captured seven podium finishes including a pair of first-place finishes. Fourth-year Saskatoon product
Myah Phillips led the way for the Huskie women, securing gold in the 83kg weight class in a dominant performance. The 2025 U SPORTS bronze medalist scored 30 points while only giving up two, taking her matches with one pin and a pair of technical superiorities. Rookie
Alexis Lavers also took home a gold medal, winning the 62kg weight class in her first career Canada West competition.
Sieraa Mullin (53kg) and
Sarah Murphy (83kg) would take silver while
Elizabeth Chapman (53kg),
Taebyn Tulp (68kg), and Kate McLachlan (72kg) rounded out the Huskie podium finishes.
Friday night several Huskies also took part in the Dino Dual between the Calgary Dinos and Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Myah Clatney (65kg) was the lone Huskie to win her match on the women's side, taking down Calgary's Eve Maxwell-Nikiforuk, while Lane Motley (76kg) secured a Saskatchewan win over Calgary's Braeden Monts in the men's dual.
The Huskies will now have to wait over a month for their next action, with the Huskie Duals and Open coming as the next competition on November 28 and 29.
