SASKATOON, Sask. –
Dylan Miller knocked down a clutch game-tying three in the dying seconds of the fourth, and
Easton Thimm posted a 25-point, 19-rebound double-double to help propel the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a thrilling 102–99 overtime victory over the Brandon Bobcats on Friday night (Nov. 28) on Ron and Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex.
Thimm's career-high rebounding effort helped the 6-foot-10 forward maintain his position as the top rebounder in the Canada West, averaging 10.9 boards per game this season while his presence inside also created second-chance opportunities and opened up clean looks for teammates.
Mohamed Mahadhi followed Thimm's team-high scoring performance with 19 points on a 6-for-10 night from the field and a nearly perfect 7-for-8 showing at the line. Meanwhile,
Emmanuel Bonsu,
Mohamed Jabateh, and Miller each reached double figures, scoring 17, 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Not to be outdone on the stat sheet, Brandon countered with standout performances of its own in the five-quarter affair. Arjun Hehar led all scorers with 32 points, as the freshman guard connected on 10 of 11 shots from the field and 7 of 8 from beyond the arc. Sultan Haider-Bhatti added 28 points, while Munroop Gill rounded out the Bobcats' primary scoring with 17.
The win marks the Dogs' second victory of the season, snapping a six-game skid and moving them to 2–7. It also represents the Huskies' first time cracking triple digits since Jan. 27, 2023, when they defeated Trinity Western 104–87.
For Brandon, the loss drops the Bobcats to 5–6 as they sit in the middle of the Canada West Prairie Division standings.
After a tightly contested first half in which both teams traded blows from beyond the arc—combining for 16 made threes—defences tightened up in the third. The Huskies went 0-for-4 from deep and Brandon 0-for-7, but Saskatchewan still managed to shoot 50% from the floor to close the quarter with a 73–63 advantage.
Brandon opened the fourth with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to two, forcing Huskies head coach
Jamie Campbell to call a timeout to steady his squad. However, the Bobcats continued to surge, and with Hehar and Haider-Bhatti leading the charge, Brandon held a three-point lead in the final seconds of regulation. After a Saskatchewan timeout and the ball in the Huskies' possession, Miller inbounded to Jabateh, who quickly returned the pass to Miller on the wing. The third-year Calgary product drilled a contested three with 10.1 seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, both sides continued to trade punches, but it was the Huskies' defence that proved decisive. Active hands resulted in five Saskatchewan steals, with Mahadhi picking up three in the abbreviated five-minute period. After Thimm's final basket put the Dogs ahead by one with just over 30 seconds to play, Mahadhi's third steal effectively sealed the win as Saskatchewan added a pair of free throws to close out the 102–99 thriller.
With just one game remaining before the Christmas break, the Huskies will wrap up the 2025 calendar year against Brandon in game two of the weekend tomorrow night (Nov. 29) at the PAC. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
