HIGHLIGHTS
Following a dominant win 24 hours earlier against the Winnipeg Wesmen, the Dogs came out looking to continue that offensive production against the Bisons.
The Bisons would have other ideas however, coming out with stout defensive play against a confident Saskatchewan attack. In a scoreless first half the visiting team held the advantage in both shots (3-2) and fouls (4-2) but the Huskies would generate more scoring opportunities thanks to four corner kicks.
By the end of the match the Huskies play down low in the offensive zone was what helped set them apart, owning a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. That advantage allowed the Huskies to generate a second-half goal scored by third-year winger
Nicole Burnett.
It too just over seven minutes for the Huskies to find the back of the net in the second half. Veteran midfielder
Jade Houmphanh sent a beautiful shot from 15 yards out just under the cross bar to give the Huskies the lead.
Houmphanh's goal was the second of her season and first of two points in Sunday's win. Striker
Marie Kilcher picked up an assist on the goal, earning her seventh point in the past two games.
Just over five minutes later, Burnett would clean up a rebound off a Houmphanh shot to extend the lead to 2-0.
With momentum on their side, the Huskies pressed the attack and were rewarded with a penalty kick in the 70th minute of the match. Standout goal scorer
Alyssa D'Agnone would step in and convert the opportunity for her fifth of the season and fourth of the weekend. The score D'Agnone moved into a tie for 5th all-time in program scoring with 20 career goals, tying her with Janine Stangier (199-01,03,05) and Erin Hammett (1997-01).
Despite another fantastic effort in net for keeper
Kalin Roberts, the Huskies were unable to secure the shutout with Manitoba's Jessica Tsai scoring in the 83rd minute of action. Tsai connected with a header off a beautiful pass from teammate Shannon Lee.
Roberts would finish the game with four saves on the Bisons, bringing her season save percentage to .813, good enough for 5th in Canada West.
