VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's soccer team defeated the University of Saskatchewan, 3-0, Sept. 15 at Centennial Stadium.
Alex Moody led the Vikes with two goals, moving Victoria to 5-0-2 on the season.
Ethan Cabral and Daler Tohkirov each tallied a shot for Saskatchewan, while the team's record moves to 2-5-0.
The Vikes were the first to breakthrough, finding the back of the net in the 20th minute. On a corner kick, a backward pass by Ole Cameron found Alex Moody, who connected inside the six-yard box for the 1-0 Victoria lead.
Victoria threatened again with back-to-back shots from Javier Sagaste in the 34th and 37th minutes, but Huskies goalkeeper
Jaron Slopinski got in front of both to make the saves and keep the Vikes' lead at just one.
Saskatchewan saw their best chance of the first half from
Ethan Cabral in the 41st minute. Cabral drove to the the top of the box and got a shot off, but it was blocked by the Vikes defender to keep the Huskies scoreless.
Victoria would add to their lead in the 44th minute, with Moody notching his second goal of the match after dribbling through Saskatchewan defenders to the top of the box, firing off his shot to give the Vikes a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Saskatchewan had the first scoring look of the second half, coming in the 57th minute,
Daler Tokhirov found open space and fired off a shot, but it went just wide of the goal and the Huskies remained scoreless.
The Huskies found themselves a man down in the 79th minute, when a red card was shown to goalkeeper Slopinski. Geroge Arnold stepped in to goal and immediately made an impact, making the save on Sagaste's free kick to prevent the Vikes from extending their lead.
Victoria added one more goal to their scoreline in the final minute of regular time, with Takin Keshavarz finding the back of the net for the first time this season to seal the win for the home side, 3-0.
