Early Score Leads Cascades Over Shorthanded Huskies

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – It took just two minutes for the Cascades to get on the board, helping UFV to a 2-0 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday night at Rotary Stadium. Fraser Valley rookie Dante Colebourne scored early and Mateo Brazinha added a late marker, as the Cascades came away with the victory. The Cascades move to 4-1-2 with the result, while the Huskies drop to 2-4 on the season.

Colebourne got the Cascades rolling right off the opening kickoff. After picking up a loose ball just across midfield, the first-year midfielder drove to the top of the box and finished it beautifully into the bottom left corner just one minute and 40 seconds into the match.

Things turned from bad to worse for the Huskies in the 18th minute, as Robert Woodroofe-Brown got caught up in a fracas at the top of the UFV box after a corner kick. The Saskatchewan striker was shown a red card to put the visitors down to 10-men early on.

The Cascades pushed to increase the lead, but great chances from Jeevan Dhaliwal and Michael Beecroft were unable to find the target.

UFV would be rewarded in second half stoppage time, as Brazinha was sent in on goal. Saskatchewan keeper Jaron Slopinski managed to get a piece of the first shot and direct it off the left post, but the rebound came right back to Brazinha who finished it off for his team leading fifth goal of the season.
