Huskies Send Pandas Packing with Weekend Sweep

SASKATOON, Sask. – In the second of a two-game series against the U of A Pandas this weekend at the Physical Activity Complex in Saskatoon, The Huksies were looking for another dominant performance to give themselves a sweep on the weekend but the Pandas weren't going down without a fight.

The Huskies defence was on fire right out of the gate as they shut the pandas down and took a quick lead. Though it was a hard-fought start for the Pandas they just couldn't shut down the red hot Huksie offense.

The Dogs offense was kick-started by a couple of quick points by fourth-year Guard Gage Grassick who put up her first 30-point game of the season. Grassick, who was red hot from beyond the arc shooting 55% from deep, seemingly put down every shot she took.

Similar to last nights battle, It was a very dominant first half of play for the Dogs and they showed no signs of slowing down going into the second.

The pressure did not cease on either ends of the court as both teams continued pressing each other but whatever energy the Dogs had on defence was doubled on offence as they grew a very comfortable lead. With Grassick putting away almost half of the Huskies points, the Pandas were looking to shut her down. Despite Alberta's efforts there was no slowing Grassick and the Dogs.

Ball possession and rebounding were both strong points for the Dogs tonight and It seemed like no matter what the Pandas did, they couldn't strip the ball from the Dogs and with Andrea Dodig leading the game with seven defensive rebounds, there seemed to be no way to catch up to the Huskies large lead.

The Pandas defence, though aggressive, could not slow down the Huksies and they continued to grow their lead throughout the fourth and final quarter of play putting up 25 more points in order to cement their lead.

As the final buzzer sounded throughout the building it was the Huksies who found themselves on top with a decisive 76-49 victory sending the building into a frenzy of excitement.  With this win, the Dogs swept the series and increased their record to 4-2 on the season.
