SASKATOON, Sask. - Unable to overcome an early deficit, the Saskatchewan Huskies suffered a second loss in as many days to Alberta Golden Bears Saturday night at the Physcial Activity Complex. The Dogs fall to 0-6 through the opening weeks of the season with the 86-67 loss while the Bears improved to 2-2 with the weekend sweep.
The final score, while lopsided, did not capture the Huskie effort, with the Dogs shooting 47% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc. Unfortunately for the home team, the Bears one-up Saskatchewan with a 55% shooting performance while knocking down 12 triples.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 28-15 first quarter lead after coming out of the gates red-hot, connecting on 12-of-17 shot attempts. The first quarter effort was led by Alberta's Isaac Simon, who once again produced a game-high performance with 29 points on the night.
After the Huskies bounced back in the third, outscoring the visiting team 19-16, there was still work to be done coming out for the second half.
The Bears had other ideas however, limiting the Huskies to just 50% in the third and 42% in the fourth while earning the scoring edge 22-16 and 20-17 to close out the game and secure a second win in Saskatoon.
For the Huskies, Saturday evening's performance was led by fifth-year guard
Griffin Sharkey who recorded a season-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting with four triples.
Easton Thimm,
Dillyn Morin, and
Mohamed Jabateh followed up with none points each.
