LANGLEY, BC – The Saskatchewan Huskies continued their BC road trip weekend on Saturday night, taking on the Trinity Western Spartans at Chase Office Field. The Spartans would prove to be too much for the Huskies, notching the 3-0 win. The loss drops the Huskies to 5-3-0 in Canada West where they will remain in third place in the Prairie Division.
Starting in goal for the Huskies was
Kalin Roberts, who would make seven saves in the game for Saskatchewan., with Hannah Miller in net for the Spartans.
Trinity Western is one of the strongest teams in the country, ranking sixth in U SPORTS. They opened scoring in the 14th minute, thanks to Sophie Crowther, who would slip one past Roberts in the lower left corner to take the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would double their lead in the 37th minute, with Crowther picking up an errant Huskie pass in the centre and firing it off to a charging Lauren Spiller, who would hit the back of the net, extending their lead 2-0.
In the 45th minute, Saskatchewan had their best opportunity of the night when second-year
Nammi Nguyen sent a high shot towards the Spartans net that challenged Miller. Miller was able to control the rebound, preventing danger from the Huskie forwards, and Trinity Western would keep the lead going into half time.
Charity Field would give the Spartans their third goal of the game in the 59th minute, thanks to an assist from Masha Sidhu. Saskatchewan's
Marie Kilcher would press the Spartans defense in the 82nd minute but was unable to get one past Miller.
